Artist statement

At the core of my practice is the desire to divulge that which is overlooked, the small components in the larger mechanism and those that compose the overall landscape. As these parallel socio-economic brackets and communities which I’ve lived in.

Constant movement and coverage of large urban areas is an experience that forces me to observe the various landmarks that would otherwise be ignored or overlooked. An activity that parallels that to my upbringing in Mexico City.

As a pedestrian and passenger examining the landscape through the windows of buses, trains and vehicles, helps me have a better understanding of my surroundings, and has helped me navigate places with relative ease once I begin familiarizing with landmarks.

While neglect, deterioration and exposure to the elements can be construed as mere urban decay, I view it as resilience, and in the case of graffiti and street art, as defiance, both of which resonate with my lived experiences.

The complicated relationship between street art and graffiti against abatement is a reality of urban living, and it's a relationship I find interesting and telling of class, economics and gentrification.

My work weaves together the outside environment, craft and culture.
