José Galván Martínez is a visual artist based in Oxnard, CA primarily working in ceramics and print making.
Galván Martínez was born and raised in Mexico City. His work reflects the instability of growing up in a quasi-nomadic manner juxtaposed with alienation, homesickness, nostalgia, views on politics, and identity.
Galván Martínez's work draws from the aesthetic of unkept and dilapidated boroughs of Mexico City he grew up in, the working-class neighborhoods of Oxnard, Ceramic work traditional to the Central Valley of Mexico and Oaxaca, traditional Mexican textile patterns, hand-painted rótulos , anime, punk rock, street art and graffiti.
